Who is the SGA?

The SGA is composed of full-time, undergraduate Champlain students who were either elected/appointed by the student body.


  1. President: Chair Cabinet meetings, nominate Cabinet members, & serve as a liaison to administration
  2. Vice President: Chair House of Representatives meetings, & chair Bylaws committee
  3. Director of Finance: chair Finance Committee, manage SGA budget, & approve expenditures
  4. Director of Operations: Record minutes for House of Representative and Cabinet meeting, & serve as office manager
  5. Director of Clubs: Coordinate with SGA-funded clubs, maintain club information, & coordinate training for club leaders
  6. Director of Communications: Maintain and update SGA website and social media pages, publicize actions of SGA, & manage SGA email
  7. Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Chair the Diversity and Engagement Committee, & meet regularly with organizations on campus that serve students of diverse identity groups
  8. Director of Wellness: Interact with and listen to students concerning topics of concern in the Champlain community that are not being addressed. Distributing Title IX information, improving upon mental health resources, and hosting educational workshops.

House of Representatives

  1. Allocate grant funding during House of Representatives meeting
  2. Engage and communicate with their constituents throughout each semester during office hours/engagement hours
  3. Serve on institutional committees as requested
  4. Host and facilitate a semesterly event for constituents

Why is SGA involved with clubs?

Standard Champlain College’s annual costs for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters for full-time undergraduate students include a $100 Activity Fee. The student Activity Fee sum is facilitated by the SGA to provide semesterly budgets to club and student activities accordingly.

How do I contact the SGA?

Every SGA member must complete office hours weekly in Hearthstone (IDX 303). Hearthstone is an open environment where all Champlain students are welcome whether you have questions regarding the SGA or you need a space to do homework. Please visit the Office Hours Page on the website to view the 2020-21 Office Hours of the House of Representatives and Cabinet members if you wish to discuss SGA-related topics in-person.

The SGA holds the House of Representatives meeting every Monday, 3:30 – 5:15 PM in Freeman room 201 that is open to observation. If you wish to participate in the HoR meeting and view the process please contact Vice President, Satinder Pabla at sgavp@mymail.champlain.edu. What is a grant?

The SGA Grant Fund is designed to assist Champlain College students—both as individuals and as groups or organizations—in their participation in an activity that would otherwise be impeded by lack of finances. These activities may include but are not limited to conference attendance, campus events, and community engagement.

The SGA has allocated $42,000 toward the grant fund for the Fall 2020 – Spring 2021 Champlain academic year. The House of Representatives is elected by the student body to determine how the fund is distributed throughout the year. Grants are discussed, bi-weekly, on Monday 3:30 -5:15 PM in CCM 442.

How do I start a club?

Starting a club requires one clubhead, nine interested Champlain students, and one faculty advisor. New clubs are accepted and funded on a rolling basis. In addition, the new club’s activities must align with the College’s Standards of Conduct.

If you wish to start a club please visit the Club Page on the website and complete the “Club Registration Form”. You will need to provide the student ID numbers of the future club members, a statement of purpose, a summary of the club activities, a budget breakdown, and other club details.

I have a concern, when can I meet with the SGA?

The Student Government Association has open office hours available with both House of Representatives and Cabinet members, every weekday. To view those hours, click here. The Hearthstone office operates under an open-door policy in which all Champlain students are welcome to use the space, and interact with SGA members so long as there are no meetings at the time being. In addition to this open-door policy, one-on-one meetings are available with HoR and Cabinet members upon request. Simply send sga@champlain.edu an email detailing your concern, hours you are available to meet, and the SGA will do all it can to accommodate your requests.

Where is the SGA located?

The SGA is located in the Hearthstone office in the IDX Student Life Building, on the second floor, across from the dining hall.

Do SGA members get paid?

SGA members are offered a semester-based stipend to compensate for their work, time, and dedication in the organization.

Assistant Positions: $500 stipend annually

House of Representatives: $400 stipend annually

Director Cabinet Position: $2,000 stipend annually

President/Vice President: $3,000 stipend annually

How do I submit a grant?

Grants can be submitted via the SGA website, here. The process involves a simple WuFoo form, and should your proposal need any more information than what you have provided, the SGA will reach out to you. The activities serviced by the grant fund may include but are not limited to conference attendance, campus events, personal projects, and community engagement. How Can I access SGA funds?

There are multiple ways!

The SGA’s preferred method is for you to use our Champlain College credit card, which is easiest for online purchases. Reach out to Kyle, the Director of Finance, to set up a time with him so he can enter the card information when you check out online. When you finish the transaction, please fill out the form at bit.ly/sgafinance20.

You can also submit invoices from businesses or reimbursement requests through our online form: bit.ly/sgafinance20
We ask that you please fill out this W-9 tax form so that funds can be deposited directly into your bank account as soon as possible.

How do I become a part of the SGA?

The Student Government Association has positions available for election and appointment every annual school year. For information regarding available positions, please contact Gail Lewis, the Director of Operations.

Does the SGA follow rules?

Just as any organization on the Champlain College campus, the SGA is subject to certain rules and guidelines which are followed under the supervision of our organizational advisors. The SGA’s government documents include the Bylaws, the Standing Rules, and the Diversity plan.
